Cabinet Extends Tenure of Gen G Inquiry Commission by 25 Days

Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers

The government has extended the term of the commission investigating the physical and human losses sustained during the Gen G protests on September 8-9.

A Cabinet meeting on Monday decided to grant a 25-day extension to the inquiry commission, according to government spokesperson and Minister for Home Affairs, Om Prakash Aryal.

The commission, led by former Judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, was formed on September 21, 2025, to conduct a fair investigation into the casualties and damages from the protests and to submit a detailed report. The commission was initially mandated to submit its report within three months. However, the commission requested for additional time to prepare the report and was earlier given a one-month extension.

With the latest extension, the commission is unlikely to submit its report to the government before the March 5 election.

Among other decisions, the Cabinet approved the National Economic Census 2082 Order, paving the way for data collection for the nationwide census.

Additionally, the Council of Ministers also decided to present the Government's Annual Report for the fiscal year 2024/25 to President Ram Chandra Paudel.
