The Nepali Army has implemented a three-phase security plan for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5, covering the period before, during and after the polls.
Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet said the army has completed all necessary preparations, including election-focused training and joint security exercises.
The army has been providing security at ballot printing centers and transporting ballot papers from Kathmandu to election offices across all districts.
During the voting process, the army will provide third-tier perimeter security at polling stations. After voting concludes, integrated teams comprising security personnel, election officials and representatives of political parties will secure and transport ballot boxes to counting centers.
Under the integrated security plan, the army will also guard polling and counting sites, conduct aerial patrols and dispose of suspicious objects if detected. It said it stands ready to deploy additional troops in the third security perimeter and, if necessary, in other security layers to ensure a safe electoral environment.
To further strengthen security arrangements, the army has established bases in various parts of the country and is conducting regular patrols in coordination with local administrations and other relevant agencies.
Speaking to RSS, Basnet said the Nepali Army remains fully committed to ensuring a secure election by strictly adhering to the election code of conduct and coordinating closely with the government, the Election Commission, local administrations and other security agencies. -- RSS
