Kathmandu’s markets have taken on a festive hue as Fagu Purnima approaches.
Shops selling coloured powder, water guns, balloons and Holi-themed T-shirts have reported a sharp rise in footfall over the past few days across the Valley.
Holi will be celebrated on Monday, March 2, in the hill districts, while the Tarai-Madhes region will observe the festival a day later.
Marked by the playful smearing of colours, Holi symbolises the victory of good over evil.

However, festivities this year come amid heightened security due to the March 5 House of Representatives elections.
Citing security concerns, the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has banned the installation of stages, and musical programmes and fairs in public spaces during the festival.
With the election code of conduct in force, the administration has urged the public not to misuse the occasion for political campaigning. It has prohibited the use of clothing and accessories bearing election symbols or images of political parties or candidates.
In a separate notice, the administration said night-time businesses in Kathmandu district must close by 9 p.m. from Monday until further notice to ensure election security.
