Nepal’s Power Trade and Energy Exchange Limited (PTEEL), India’s Energy Edge Power Trading Co. Ltd., and Nangia LLC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in cross-border power trading, renewable energy development, and transmission infrastructure between Nepal and India.
The agreement aims to enhance collaboration in internal and cross-border electricity trade, development of hydropower and solar power projects in Nepal, project financing, transmission line investments, and advisory services.
According to the MoU, the primary objectives include facilitating power trade between the two countries, jointly developing hydropower and solar projects in Nepal, identifying potential buyers for hydropower project licenses, and exploring innovative financing mechanisms for energy and transmission infrastructure development.
The three companies will also work together to identify and engage development partners on mutually agreeable terms and provide advisory services related to power trading and project development.
Under the scope of cooperation, the parties have agreed to exchange technical expertise and market intelligence to enhance cross-border power transactions. They will also coordinate closely on regulatory compliance and operational strategies to ensure smooth and efficient power trading operations.
Officials said the collaboration is expected to contribute to Nepal’s efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity, attract foreign investment, and strengthen energy connectivity with India, thereby supporting regional energy security and sustainable development.
