November 18: Confederation of Nepali Industries (CNI) and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP) in the support of Chaudhary Group has organized regional workshop seminar 'Disaster Risk Management and Role of Private sector in rebuilding’ on November 17at Lalitpur. Speaking in the program, Dipak Bohara, Minister of Supply said that government must co-ordinate with private sector in order to forward rebuilding process in expected way and provide relief to victims after the devastating earthquake. The representatives from countries including Nepal, India and Bangladesh attended the seminar.
According to Minister Bohara, the government expects support from private sector in re-building process. He explained the need of private sector in the rebuilding process as the managerial skills of private sector are superior than government in anywhere in the world. According to Sushil Gyawali, Chief of National Reconstruction Authority, the role of private sector and non-government bodies is integral for concluding re-building process in time.
As per Hari Bhakta Sharma, President of CNI, the private sector is engaged in relief programs and re-building process rising from their corporate social responsibilities. However, he criticized the government for charging tax in donation money by private sector in ‘Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund’. "The government must co-ordinate with private sector in all types of economic activities correcting such actions," he added.
