NOC Assures Stable Fuel Supply during Election

The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has urged the public not to engage in panic buying or hoarding of petroleum products, assuring that fuel imports and distribution remain regular and will continue uninterrupted even during the election period.

The appeal comes after a large number of people queued at fuel stations across the Kathmandu Valley and other areas on Sunday, following US-Israeli attacks on Iran. Many consumers were seen purchasing petrol and diesel in bulk amid fears of a possible supply disruption.

NOC Executive Director Chandika Prasad Bhatta said the import of petroleum products is proceeding smoothly through the pipeline and other regular channels. “The import of petroleum products is uninterrupted through the pipeline. Import will continue even during the upcoming elections,” he said in a public notice issued on Monday.

The election to the House of Representatives is scheduled for March 5.

Bhatta warned that unnecessary storage of petroleum products in cans, drums and other containers could pose serious fire hazards. He said such storage is strictly prohibited due to the risk of fire-related disasters.

The state-owned oil monopoly also urged consumers to purchase only the required quantity of fuel and cooperate in maintaining a smooth supply system. – With inputs from RSS
