Voting is underway in a largely peaceful manner across the country, with voters lining up at polling centres to cast their ballots in the House of Representatives election.

Polling began at 7 a.m., and voters arriving at polling centres before 5 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki and most top leaders of major political parties have already cast their ballots to elect the 275-member House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament, which was dissolved six months ago following the Gen Z uprising.

Former Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah, fielded as the prime ministerial candidate by the Rabi Lamichhane-led Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), casted his vote at a polling centre in Sinamangal, Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, roads across the Kathmandu Valley appeared largely deserted as vehicular movement was restricted on election day, except for vehicles providing essential services such as ambulances. Security personnel intensified vehicle checks and tightened security across the Valley.
