3rd Annual Conference of 'Hydro Empowerment Asia' Begins in the Capital

November 23: The third annual conference of 'Hydro Empowerment Asia' an association of micro hydroelectricity producers of 12 countries from South and Southeast Asia has begun in the capital from November 22. The conference is being held for the first time in Nepal by Nepal Micro Hydropower Development Corporation. "The conference is focused on the exchange of experiences and future plan for micro hydropower development in the 12 countries of the region," said Krishna Devkota, Chairman of the Corporation. "Information regarding development, problems and opportunities of micro hydropower in their respective countries are being shared in the conference," he added.

The conference is being participated by nearly 50 micro hydropower producers from India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines and Thailand including Nepal. A minimum of five organisations related with micro hydropower from each country are participating the conference. Energy Promotion Board, Engineering Development Nepal, Regional Centre For Excellence Micro Hydro and Practical Action South Asia are participating the conference besides the organising company from Nepal. "The second day will see a presentation about micro hydropower development in Nepal," informed Devkota. The corporation has made a field visit program to project sites for the participants.
