January 4- Passport seekers can now apply for it from mobile phone. Department of Passport (DoP) launched the mechanism considering the demand and requirement of the service seekers. The service is made available with the launching of a mobile app from Foreign minister Prakash Sharan Mahat on Tuesday, January 3.
Service seekers, apart from paying fees, submitting photo and finger code and authentication of the citizenship, can fulfil all other process from the mobile app. The aforementioned tasks need to be fulfilled physically by the service seekers in the DoP. The service seekers need to download the app from play store, download the application form and fill out the required personal details and submit to the DoP. While submitting, the app generates a barcode which the service seekers can save in their mobile phone or take its print out. Then the service seeker needs to visit the DoP to carry out final processing of the passport application.
In the first phase, the facility will be available in Doha, Riyadh, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, London , Washington DC and New York.
