January 8: Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma has said that his ministry would work rigorously to make districts outside Kathmandu Valley free from power cut. As per this, locals of Lekhnath Municipality of Pokhara have not been bearing the brunt of power cut for the past two weeks.
Though the initiative was started from the Kathmandu Valley, the country would be free from power cut soon, he said in a programme organised in Chitwan on Friday. Minister Sharma informed that Chitwan would be free from power outage in the next phase. Moreover, he stressed on the need of the help of locals to control power leakage.
With an objective to fulfill the electricity demand in dry season as well, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has signed an agreement with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam to procure additional 80MW electricity from India. Among the 80MW, import of 40MW has started from January 1, whereas additional 40MW will be imported from February 1.
MoE has also expressed its willingness to purchase power produced from various resources within the country to fulfill the demand of electricity.
