January 13: Day wise increase in the number of people willing to invest in hydropower sector has been seen. The number of commitments willing to invest in hydropower sector in an online commitment system introduced by the government to collect the data on commitments has reached above 18,000 in just three days. Among them, 18,207 commitments are from personal aspects.
Similarly, 16 companies have shown their eagerness to invest in the hydropower. The commitments have been received on the website'www.moenonline.moen.gov.np' which was inaugurated by the Minister of Energry Janardan Sharma on last Monday, January 9.
According to Sharma, the investment commitment collection is forwarded for 'Ujyalo Nepal Aviyan' (Brighter Nepal Campaign) with a slogan 'Nepal ko Pani, Janata ko Lagi' (Water of Nepal for People of Nepal). He said that the when the collected commitment is enough to build any hydropower project, it will be accordingly done.
Within a day of inauguration of the website, a total of 165 individuals and 6 companies had committed for investment. The number grew to above 18,000 in just three days period. The individual investors have committed for Rs 1.50 billion investment whereas the companies have committed for above Rs 52.1 million.
