The eighth Leather Goods and Footwear Expo 2011 organised by the Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers Association Nepal concluded on December 26. Organised in the City Hall premises in Kathmandu from December 20 with an objective to promote domestic brands of footwear and leather goods, the weeklong exhibition received more than 15,000 visitors every day.
According to Expo Coordinator Manoj Kumar Shrestha, leather goods worth Rs 1.5 million were sold every day on an average. The exhibition showcased more than 50 stalls of producers and suppliers of domestic footwear companies and raw material for leather products. A wide collection of canvas and leather shoes, sandals, bags, and jackets were the major attractions of the grand exhibition. Buyers got 15 per cent discount on all such items. The weeklong expo provided a common ground to the producers and suppliers of footwear and leather products.
Domestic manufacturers have 40 to 45 per cent share in the Nepali footwear market, while their exports stand at over Rs 10 million per year, said the organisers. Gold Star Shoes was the gold sponsor of the expo. BF Dear Hill Shoes was its sponsor and Sky Shoes and Magic Sandals were co-sponsors.
