July 16: Narayani Transportation Entrepreneurs Association has paid compensation worth Rs 170 million in the fiscal year 2016/17. The association has paid Rs 130 million under its social responsibility and Rs 40 million as property compensation, they informed during a program held in Bharatpur on July 14.
Under the social responsibility, the association provided compensation for the loss or lives or injuries to humans and livestock while the property compensation was given for the damages of vehicles and other properties.
Accidents involving the vehicles affiliated to the association have killed 123 people and injured 1,700 people in the last one year alone. The association has been distributing the funds to the victims through insurance companies, said Badri Prasad Chaulagain, chairman of the association. Compensation for loss of human lives is three times more than the compensation provided to owners of damaged vehicles, he claimed.
