October 25: Baraha Lake in Malika-1 of Mayagdi district, which carries immense potential to attract tourists, is waiting for its promotions as well as development of the place. The scenic lake spread across two ropanis of land is located in Niskot VDC-9. The area lacks developmental activities in the absence of conservation and promotions programmes.
Situated at an altitude of 2,200 meters above the sea level, the lake offers scenic views of different Himalayan ranges. View of the world’s seventh highest mountain, Mount Dhaulagiri, as well as other mountains like Gurja, Annapurna, Machhapuhre, Manapathi can be observed from the lake.
According to Chabilal Upadhayay, ward secretary of Malika VDC-1, Niskot, a budget of Rs 500,000 has been allocated in the current fiscal year for the construction of a pathway from Niskot village to Baraha Taal and for the conservation of the lake.
