Pokhara to Host International Mountain Festival

November 20: International Mountain Festival is going to be held in Pokhara.  The festival is being organised with an aim to provide information about the cultural and geographical aspects of the mountain region. This is the fourth edition of the festival being organising by Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) on December 11 and 12 at the Mountain Museum of Gharipatan.

Mountain Museum head, Bal Prasad  Rai, said that the objective of the festival is to highlight the Himalayan culture  in the changing world context. He added the festival will update and inform about the true mountain culture using new information technology.  Since December 11 is celebrated as the World Mountaineering Day, NMA also has been organizing this festival in Nepal on the same day since the last four years.

NMA Chairman Santa Bir Lama said that the festival will depict the real picture of mountain life, culture and tradition.  The scope of tourism in mountains will be also discussed with mountaineering experts in the fest, the organisers informed.  The ongoing research technology used in the mountainous regions can also be observed in the fest. Different stalls featuring various materials of arts, culture and tradition of the Himalayan region will be set up in the festival. An interesting game competition of stone throwing, locally knowsn as ‘Cheelo’, will also be organised in the fest to entertain the domestic as well as foreign tourists visiting the fest.
