December 20: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has asked the concerned authorities to bring the water of Melmachi to the Kathmandu Valley at the earliest.
As the capital is facing shortage of water, the CIAA on Tuesday, directed the officials of Melamchi Water Supply Development Board (MWSDB) to solve the shortage of drinking water in Kathmandu by completing the project as soon as possible.
CIAA Chief Commissioner Deep Basnet directed the concerned officials as the people of Kathmandu have been facing dust pollution and shortage of clean drinking water at the same time. A source at CIAA said that the shortage of water has made people of Kathmandu exposed to diseases and the dust pollution has left very bad image of Nepal among the foreign tourists. “The miscommunication between the concerned authorities has delayed in the completion of the project,” the source added.
According to CIAA Commissioner Nabin Kumar Ghimire, the pace of the project has been disappointing. Another commissioner of CIAA, Ganesh Raj Joshi, said that despite being a national pride project, the concerned authorities have not paid attention to complete Melamchi Water Supply Project.
