14th Footwear and Leather Expo kicks off

December 29: The 14th Footwear and Leather Expo kicked off in the capital on Thursday, December 28. Finance Minister Gyanendra Karki inaugurated the expo which aims to promote shoes and slippers made in the country.

During the function, Minister Karki stressed that the government needs to give priority to export-oriented economy.

Likewise, Shekhar Golcha, Senior Vice President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) said that the Nepali economy faces many challenges but expressed his belief that the private sector is capable of running business within the country.  

President of Footwear Manufacturers Association of Nepal, Rabin Shrestha, drew the attention of the government to develop footwear zone in the country. He warned that the import of shoes is high due to globalization and this trend should be stopped.
