January 11: The construction of Chameliya Hydropower Project, which started some 11 years back, is all set to generate electricity within this week. The electricity generated from the project will be connected to national grid from Friday, January 11.
In the initial stage, a total of 15 MW of electricity will be generated from the project, informed Chameliya Hydropower Project. According to Ajaya Kumar Dahal, head of the project, water is collected in day and night time, and the electricity is produced during evening and morning time.
Earlier, it was said that the construction of the project would be completed after the Tihar festival but it took two more months to complete the project.
The project started in 2007 and was initially said to be completed within five years. A total of Rs 16 billion has been invested in the project.
