April 8: The National Tea and Coffee Development Board is organising the Third International Tea Festival.
As part of the three-day festival, the board organised a tea tasting event at Syamgboche in the Everest region on Saturday, April 7, in order to promote Nepali tea in the international market.
Nineteen tea promoters of 13 different countries took part in the tea tasting event, according to Gaurab Luitel, planning officer of the board.
Sharyn Johnston of Australia, who has visited Nepal many times, cherished the tea tasting experience in Everest as a memorable moment of her life. Nepali orthodox tea were also displayed during the event.
President of the board, Deepak Khanal, said that a logo of Nepali tea was launched from the Everest region.
Minister for Agriculture, Land management and Cooperatives Chakrapani Khanal inaugurated the event.
"The ministry will play a role of mediator to take Nepali tea to the international market," said Minister Khanal during the inauguration ceremony.
"The government will leave no stone unturned for the development of agriculture sector as more than half of the population of Nepal is dependent on agriculture," said Minister Khanal.
The minister also made a commitment to bring new strategies to promote Nepali products in the international market.
National and international experts presented their papers regarding the promotion of Nepali tea during the event.
According to the National Tea and Coffee Development Board, around 24 million kg of tea is being produced in Nepal annually, of which 5.5 million kg is orthodox tea.
