Possible Disaster of Makalu Air Averted

April 9: A single-engine aircraft belonging to Makalu Air had a narrow escape at Humla's airport. The plane with call sign 9N-AJg was all set to carry 10 passengers from Humla's Simikot Airport to Surkhet on Sunday morning when it developed hydraulic problem. Fortunately, the plane stopped in the runway before take-off, averting a possible disaster. The aircraft has traveled 15 meters from the apron when Captain Kiran Bhattarai noticed the problem and stopped the engine, informed Raju Mahato, acting chief of the airport.

"Anything could have happened had the aircraft left the runway," he said, adding, "Fortunately, the captain noticed the problem early on due to which a disaster was averted."
