Myagdi's Copper Mine Remains Ignored

April 19: Leaders of various political parties had pledged to reopen the copper mine at Malika Rural Municipality of Myagdi district during the election campaign.

Local youths were hopeful of getting employment once the mine comes into operation again. However, the leaders have done nothing to revive the mine after getting elected to public posts.

The mine first came into operation more than three decades ago when the then government dug a 2 kilometer tunnel to extract copper ore at two different places near Okharbot village. However, the mine was shut in 1979 the negligence of the government and lack of modern technology for extraction.
