April 24: Transport entrepreneurs have shown interest in company registration after the government decided to scrap the route permits of those who operate through transport committees.
A notable number of applications have been turned in by transport entrepreneurs. While the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs (NFNTE) and NFNTE-related transport committees and unions are still protesting against the government’s decision, a total of 69 applications have been submitted to the Office of the Company Registrar. Of them, 49 applications were submitted between April 20 to April 23.
According to Rajendra Thapa, undersecretary at the Office of the Company Registrar, prior to this, 648 transport companies were registered as transport companies but as syndicate took over the transport sector, the number of registering companies dropped.
