June 4: Petroleum tanker drivers have announced protests after they were reportedly beaten by Indian police in the Nepal-India Integrated Check Post in Birgunj.
They halted the supply of petroleum products to Amlekhjung depot on Sunday protesting the high handedness of Indian police.
They claimed that the Indian police personnel attacked them without any reason. Following the incident, they said they will halt the supply of petroleum products to Amlekhjung depot until security arrangements are made.
The tanker drivers were reportedly beaten by the Indian police personnel at the Indian side of the check post on Saturday, June 4. The truck drivers had also halted the supply of petroleum products on Saturday protesting the incident.
Of the total petroleum import to the country, 70 percent comes from the Birgunj border.
