Producers Spill Milk on the Road

July 22: Farmers of Rapti Municipality in Chitwan protested against the lowering of milk price by spilling their milk on the road. The farmers spilled the milk on Mahendra Highway in Bhandara Bazar of the municipality on Friday, July 20 as part of their protest. According to the farmers, the Dairy Development Committee decreased the price of milk by around Rs 3 per liter.

Dilli Prasad Thapaliya, chairman of the Dairy Producers Cooperative of Rapti Municipality complained that they were compelled to spill the milk as an action against reduction of price a a time when farmers are not getting proper value for the milk in the market. He warned that they would take further action in case their problem is not addressed.

According to Thapaliya, six different dairy producers’ associations jointly spilled 240 liters of milk on the road as a sign of protest against the price reduction. Each of the producers’ association spilled 40 liters of milk. The producers have accused the concerned authorities of reducing the price without consulting with them.
