House Endorses Montreal Treaty, Increasing Insurance Amount for Air Passengers

August 24: The House of Representatives has unanimously endorsed the Montreal Treaty signed by the government paving way for a significant increase in insurance amount for passengers of international flights. The proposal which had been stalled at the parliament since the past few years was approved on Thursday, August 23.

The insurance amount liable to passengers in case of accident or death was Rs 2 million before the approval of the treaty but now it has increased to Rs 12.4 million.  

The treaty was approved by the House meeting to bring uniformity in the International Air Transport Policy.
