Farmers Switch to Cheese Production in Myagdi

August 28: Farmers of Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi district have started commercial production of cheese keeping in mind the rise in demand and consumption of the milk product.

The farmers were interested in producing cheese due to the increasing demand of cheese from hotels based at Ghorepani and Bhurung to appease the appetite of foreign tourists visiting Poon Hill, a renowned tourist destination in the district that offers spectacular views of Dhaulagari and Annapurna mountain range.

Prem Khadka, a local cheese producer, states that the demand for cheese has increased due to the rise in number of tourists.

One particular cheese factory in Ghar produces between 15 to 20 kg of cheese from 120 liters of milk on a daily basis. The factory has given employment to 5 locals and earns Rs 600,000 annually, informed Khadka.
