Business community urged to abide by ethics

December 13: The Department of Commerce, Supply and Protection of Consumer Interest has called on the entire business community to adhere to business ethics and discipline. 
According to Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the department has warned of action in case of business activities in violation of the Consumer Protection Act. 
No non-professional activities will be entertained during the manufacturing and production, transport, sales and distribution of goods and services, the department’s director general Yogendra Gauchan said. 
A news report published by the state-run news agency states that the department has urged all those involved in the above mentioned activities to respect the consumers' constitutional rights to receive quality goods and services. 
The act has granted market inspectors the right to fine the violators Rs 5,000 to Rs 300,000 on the spot during market monitoring. Likewise, as the quasi-judicial body, the department director general can slap a fine of Rs 50,000 to Rs 300,000 or a jail sentence between three months to one year or both to the violators.
