Ten climbers, including five Nepalis, successfully reached the summit of Mt Kangchenjunga (8,586 meters)—the world’s third-highest peak—on Saturday. This marked the first successful ascent of the mountain this year, opening the route for other climbers to begin their summit attempts.
The climbers who reached the summit of the mountain, located in Nepal's Taplejung district, included Flutura Ibrahimi of Kosovo, Adrian Michael Hayes of the UK, Alireza Behpour and Seyedhamidreza Hashemi of Iran, and Saeed Almemari of the United Arab Emirates.
They were accompanied by five Sherpas: Lhakpa Temba Sherpa, Phur Sona Sherpa, Ngima Dorchi Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa, and Chhangba Sherpa. Thaneshwor Guragain, Manager at Seven Summit Treks—which organized the expedition—confirmed their successful ascent.
According to Guragain, the team reached the summit at 2:15 PM following a 20-hour summit push that began from Camp IV the previous day.
This season, around 70 international climbers are expected to attempt Mt Kangchenjunga, with an equal number of Sherpas supporting them, according to a post by Seven Summit Treks on social media. -- RSS
