The 26th Flora Expo, which began last Friday at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, concluded on Monday, recording a total turnover of Rs 11.07 million, according to Floriculture Association Nepal (FAN), the organisers.
On the final day alone, transactions reached Rs 2.18 million, with over 10,000 visitors attending. According to Ram Bahadur Tamang, Senior Vice President of FAN and expo's coordinator, total footfall during the expo exceeded 59,000.
Plant enthusiasts explored over 80 stalls featuring a diverse array of floriculture products, such as ornamental plants, seasonal flowers, orchids, fruit saplings, compost fertilizers, flower bulbs, seeds, greenhouses, agricultural tools, and packaging materials.
The entry fee was Rs 150 for with a Rs 50-discount for students, while senior citizens enjoyed free visit.
Floriculture in Nepal has expanded significantly, driven by increasing urbanization. According to FAN, floriculture is currently practiced on over 260 hectares across 52 districts, with nearly 1,200 floriculture entrepreneurs actively engaged in the business.
The sector has an estimated investment exceeding Rs 8.83 billion, providing direct and indirect employment to over 51,500 individuals. Nepal’s annual floriculture trade now surpasses Rs 3.68 billion, reflecting its growing economic contribution, according to FAN.
