The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) is planning to transform ‘A Division League’ football clubs to a company-based model to enhance their financial strength and operational capacity.
ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai emphasized the urgency of this shift during the eighth annual general meeting of the Veterans City Club Birgunj on Saturday.
“Most football clubs in Nepal operate on emotional investment rather than professionalism. Until clubs become professional, they cannot produce quality players,” Rai stated.
He further revealed ANFA’s plan to hand over the management of football academies to the private sector. “ANFA is no longer able to operate the academy. Moving forward, academies will produce and sell players under private management,” he added.
At the event, Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality’s Chairman Jaswant Yadav highlighted ongoing investments in sports infrastructure and activities. “We are collaborating with various stakeholders to promote sports and will continue to do so in the future,” he said.
Birgunj Metropolitan City’s Chief Administrative Officer Arvindalal Karna echoed this sentiment, stating that the metropolis would partner with the private sector to boost the sports sector.
Veterans City Club Birgunj’s Chairman Sabin Basnet stressed the importance of state involvement in sports development, noting the club’s consistent contributions to football over the past 11 years. General Secretary Pankaj Shrestha also presented a report detailing the club’s financial progress. -- RSS
