The District Administration Office (DAO) of Parsa has lifted the curfew in some areas of Birgunj Metropolitan City as of midnight on Sunday. However, authorities have imposed an indefinite prohibitory order, barring all public gatherings, meetings, processions, and demonstrations until further notice.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Ganesh Aryal informed the state-owned news agency RSS that the curfew, which had been in place since 6:30 PM on Saturday, April 12, was lifted following an all-party meeting held Sunday evening.
The curfew was originally enforced in response to violent clashes that erupted during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in the Chhapkaiya area. Unidentified individuals reportedly threw stones at the procession, injuring both participants and members of the security forces.
To quell the unrest, police fired multiple rounds of tear gas and discharged live rounds into the air as warning shots. Water cannons were also deployed to disperse the crowd and regain control.
Several shops and properties were damaged in the violence, and a motorcycle parked inside a garage was set on fire, according to police.
