Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has appointed former coach of the Nepali national cricket team, Pubudu Dasanayake, as the mentor of the team.
Former coach Dasanayake has been appointed to play the role of a mentor for the triangular series being held in the US involving the hosts, Nepal and Scotland. The series is taking place from October 25 to November 4 under the ICC World Cricket League-2, according to CAN spokesperson Chumbi Lama.
Under the series, Nepal will play its first match against the USA on October 27, second match against Scotland on October 29 and the third match against USA on November 2. In the fourth and final match, Nepal will compete against Scotland on November 4.
It may be noted that Janakpur Bolts, one of the franchise team participating in the Nepal Premier League (NPL), has appointed Dasanayake as the head coach.
Dassanayake, 55, who played Test cricket for Sri Lanka in the mid-1990s before migrating to Ontario in 2001 took up job of Nepal’s head coach for the first time in 2011. He held the job until 2015, leading Nepal to their first T20 World Cup in 2014.
He coached USA from 2016 until 2019 before taking up the Nepal job for a second time in December 2021.
In July 2022, Dassanayake submitted his resignation as Nepal head coach citing "family reasons" with almost a year and a half left on his current contract in order to take up the same position with Canada. (With inputs from RSS)
