Hundreds of devotees thronged the historic Baisdhara—meaning 22 water spouts—in Balaju, Kathmandu, on Saturday, April 12, to take part in the ritual bath commemorating Chaitra Shukla Purnima, the full moon day during the bright fortnight of the month of Chaitra.
The annual fair at Baisdhara attracts both Hindu and Buddhist devotees, who regard the occasion as a spiritually significant moment of purification and renewal.
According to deeply rooted belief, bathing in the sacred waters of Baisdhara on this auspicious day is said to bestow religious merit equivalent to performing ritual baths at revered pilgrimage sites such as Muktinath and Gosainkunda.
People of all ages—from children to the elderly—gathered to partake in the cleansing ritual, seeking both spiritual and physical healing. Many also believe that bathing here on this day helps relieve skin ailments such as scabies and rashes.
