Magnitude 7 Earthquake Strikes China; Tremors Felt in Nepal, India and Bangladesh

Confirming the magnitude and the epicenter of the quake, the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center of Nepal said that it occurred at 6:50 AM local time

A 7 magnitude earthquake struck Dinggye County in Xizang, China, on Tuesday morning, sending tremors across central and eastern Nepal as well.  

Confirming the magnitude and the epicenter of the quake, the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center of Nepal said that it occurred at 6:50 AM local time. USGS Earthquakes said that the preliminary information indicated the epicenter was at the depth of 10 kilometers, approximately 93 kilometers northeast of Lobuche, Nepal.

Residents in the Kathmandu Valley, as well as Khotang and Morang districts in Koshi Province, reported feeling the strong tremors.

Alarmed by the quake, many people in Kathmandu rushed outdoors to seek safety.  

Tremors were also felt in parts of India and Bangladesh, according to reports from local media.

Last Thursday, an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 struck the Sindhupalchok district.

In recent weeks, Western Nepal, too, has experienced a series of mild earthquakes and aftershocks, affecting districts across the Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
