The electricity produced by the Sanjen Hydropower Project has been connected to the national grid.
The first unit of power from the project was connected to the national grid on Friday, November 22, evening, reported RSS, the state-owned news agency. The project developed at Aamachhodingmo-5, Rasuwa has a capacity to generate 42.5 megawatts of electricity.
Project’s Sub-Engineer Robin Koirala told RSS that the connection to the national grid was made after successfully carrying out the technical tests.
On Friday, five megawatts of electricity was generated from one of the units. Preparations are underway to test the remaining two units of the hydel project and connect the power generated by them, too, to the national grid, by Sunday, November 24, CEO of the hydropower company CEO Arpan Bahadur Singh told RSS.
Sanjen is a model hydel project among the semi-reservoir ones being constructed in Nepal, according to the company.
A ‘peaking pond’ has also been constructed at the dam site of the Sanjen Upper Hydropower Project, which can store about 44,000 cubic metres of water. It will enable additional electricity generation in the evening and operate the power house in case of an emergency breakdown.
