Every journey offers a new perspective on a place, and Shandong is no exception.
Earlier this December, New Business Age’s Photojournalist Sunil Sharma joined a 14-member delegation from the National Forum of Photojournalists (NFPJ) on a trip to Shandong Province, China, often regarded as a photographer’s paradise.
Shandong, located along China’s eastern coast, is a stunning fusion of breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture. Cities like Binzhou, Jinan, Qingdao, and Zibo each add unique layers to the province's heritage and natural beauty.
The trip included a photography exhibition titled “Flying Over the Himalayas: Shandong Cultural Week and Mesmerizing Nepal”, a collaboration between renowned Chinese photographer Su Xue and the Nepal-China Friendship Association.
The exhibition showcased photographs highlighting Nepal’s tourism, art, culture, lifestyle, and diversity. Sharma, who coordinated the visit, noted the incredible cultural exchange the event fostered.
For Sharma, exploring Shandong felt like a journey through time and space. Binzhou’s Underwater World Aquarium and the vibrant Light Show in Qingdao are must-visit attractions, he says.
Jinan, the “City of Springs”, charms visitors with its natural beauty and lively urban vibe, while Qufu, the birthplace of Confucius, offers serene ancient pavilions and tranquil courtyards.
Whether it’s the serene springs, coastal vistas, or intricate handcrafted artistry, Shandong beckons explorers with its multifaceted beauty.
But what truly stands out is the warm hospitality of the locals, leaving an everlasting impression on visitors. “No matter if you’re a budding photographer or an experienced professional, Shandong inspires creativity at every turn,” Sharma says, encouraging others to grab their cameras and embark on this adventure.
Sharma visited numerous iconic locations during the trip, including Old Town Craftsman Museum, Shandong Guojing Group, Baijiu (Chinese liquor) Museum in Zibo, Underwater World, Zhongai Marine, Zhonghai Lake Town, Wang Suxian Village, Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, Yellow River Tower, Yu Yue Group, High-Tech Zone, Senior High School, Huimin Lizhuang Rope Net Base, Sun Tzu’s Art of War City, Ancient City of Wudi in Binzhou; Kong Family Mansion, Confucius Temple, Baotu Spring, Spring City Square, Daming Lake, Liberation Pavilion, Kuanghouli, Furong Street, Qushuiting Street in Jinan; and Xiaoyushan (Little Fish Hill), Naval Museum, Zhanqiao Pier, Signal Hill Park, May Fourth Square, Olympic Sailing Center in Qingdao.
Here are some captivating photos taken by Sharma during his visit to Shandong, illustrating the region’s timeless allure.
