Hotel Ashwatth, a new five-star facility in eastern Nepal, is set to open on Wednesday, January 1.
Located in Itabhata, Mechinagar Municipality-7, Jhapa, the hotel has been built with an investment of Rs 1.3 billion, according to media entrepreneur Prajjwal Ghimire, the hotel’s investor.
Spanning across two bighas of land (approximately 0.5 hectares), the hotel is situated 4 kilometres west of Kakarbhitta, along the East-West Highway.
Hotel Mechi Crown, another five-star property, has been operating in Mechinagar-8.
With the opening of Hotel Ashwatth, Jhapa will boast three five-star hotels, including Hotel The Kingsbury in Birtamod. Two more luxury hotels are also proposed for the region, positioning Jhapa as a hub for five-star accommodations.
Hotel Ashwatth features 84 suites and deluxe rooms, and online booking has already been made available, according to Kumar Koirala, the hotel’s general manager.
The hotel offers an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, spa, banquet hall, and facilities for meditation and yoga. A casino will also be operational soon.
The rapid construction of the Asian Highway, which connects 32 countries across Asia by land, is expected to boost tourism in Mechinagar, the eastern gateway to Nepal.
Mechinagar is located within a 30-kilometer radius of India’s Bagdogra Airport, which operates 40 flights daily, and Nepal’s Chandragadhi Airport, which offers nighttime operations. Ghimire believes the hotel will cater to both domestic and international tourists.
“We opened the hotel targeting Indian, Bhutanese, and Bangladeshi tourists,” Ghimire told RSS. “In the future, tourists from Indonesia’s Bali and Thailand’s Bangkok could easily reach Nepal via the Asian Highway, which is why more hotels are opening in the region.”
Within a 5-kilometer radius of the eastern border – Kakarbhitta – lie the Itabhata and Dhulabari market areas.
With the addition of the one in Hotel Ashwatth, the number of casinos in Mechinagar would reach four. Another five-star hotel is under construction in Dhulabari, Mechinagar-10, and medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai is building another in Birtamod.
Hotel Ashwatth has initially employed 55 people directly. According to Koirala, the hotel will also arrange for mountain flight services for its guests.
