The Gandaki Provincial Government has generated Rs 1.13 billion in revenue from the sale of forest products and medicinal plants over the past seven years.
According to data from the Provincial Ministry of Forest and Environment, around 65,000 cubic feet of timber and 12,143 units of firewood were sold during this period, along with the collection of 802.63 tonnes of medicinal herbs.
The commercial production of herbs and the establishment of industries based on forest resources have significantly boosted local incomes.
In addition to revenue generation, the government controlled encroachment on 10.3 hectares of forest land, rescued over 4,000 wild animals, and distributed Rs 96 million in compensation to farmers for crop damage caused by wildlife, according to the ministry.
