The government is set to present the budget for the upcoming fiscal year (FY 2025/26) in the federal parliament today, May 29.
According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel will table the budget at a joint session of the federal parliament at 3 PM.
The presentation follows an understanding with opposition parties, who have agreed not to disrupt Thursday's session. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Manish Jha confirmed that the opposition will allow the budget to be tabled as a responsible opposition force.
“We will allow the budget presentation. There will be no obstruction in Parliament on Thursday. However, we will halt post-budget discussions unless the Home Minister resigns,” Jha told New Business Age on the eve of the budget announcement.
Opposition parties have been obstructing parliamentary proceedings since Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over his alleged involvement in the visit visa controversy.
Finance Minister Paudel is also scheduled to table the Economic Survey at 1:30 PM, ahead of the budget presentation. As per constitutional provisions, the government must present the national budget on Jestha 15 (May 29).
Sources informed New Business Age that the government is preparing to introduce a budget of around Rs 2 trillion for the next fiscal year.
