The BP Highway has remained obstructed since Monday evening after the flooded Roshi river swept away a diversion at Mapti, halting all vehicular movement.
According to the District Police Office, the flood damaged the road section leading to Mangaltar from Roshi Rural Municipality-12. Information Officer of the DPO, Min Bahadur Ghale, said that a police team, in coordination with local residents, is working to reopen the highway for one-way traffic.
Seventeen passengers stranded due to the disruption were rescued by local police.
The damaged diversion had been constructed at a section of the highway that was severely affected by last September’s floods.
Meanwhile, search efforts are ongoing for 33-year-old Renuka Giri of Subbagaon, Panauti Municipality-5, who has been missing since 6:00 p.m. Monday. She was swept away by the flooded Dhalmale river while returning home from a festival.
The search operation was suspended after midnight and resumed early Tuesday morning. A joint team of Nepal Police, Nepali Army, and Armed Police Force has been deployed in the search.
Sudden downpour in the Panauti Bus Park area on Monday also caused flooding in the vicinity. -- RSS
