Bungee jumping, an adventure sport previously available only in select locations across Nepal, is set to launch within Kathmandu Valley for the first time.
Skywalk Kathmandu, which has been operating the Skywalk Tower in Kamaladi for the past two years, is preparing to introduce bungee jumping from the tower in collaboration with The Last Resort , the company that pioneered bungee jumping in Nepal on the Bhote Koshi River.
Bishnu Hari Pandey, Managing Director of Skywalk Kathmandu, said that bungee jumping will begin from the tower starting from the month of Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September), following the completion of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
“The Skywalk Tower was opened two years ago. Other planned activities are now being implemented as the project regains momentum following delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Pandey said.
The bungee experience will be introduced under the concept of “City Bungee Jump” in partnership with The Last Resort. Pandey said the EIA is in its final phase and is expected to be completed by the end of Asar (mid-July), paving the way for bungee operations to begin soon after.
In addition to bungee jumping, Skywalk Kathmandu is also launching a Virtual Reality Dome experience at the same location. In this attraction, visitors will be able to enjoy immersive simulations such as walking on the moon or diving into the ocean. Pandey said the VR Dome is expected to be operational by the end of July.
As the Skywalk Tower entered its third year of operation on June 29, new attractions and expanded services are being added. Plans are also in place to bring surrounding restaurants and clubs to full operational capacity. “On public holidays, we receive around 1,000 to 1,300 visitors, while on regular working days, the number is around 400,” Pandey added.
The tower is operated by Wonders Nepal Pvt. Ltd., which has also developed similar skywalk towers in Bhedetar, Dharan, and Kanyam, Ilam. The Kamaladi tower, built on 13 ropanis of land, stands 78.5 meters tall. Its 25th floor features a glass-floored walkway for visitors.
Nepali visitors are charged Rs 1,050 to access the tower, while foreign tourists pay Rs 1,600. A corporate yoga program is also run at the tower. In celebration of its annual anniversary, the company is offering guests personalized mugs with their photographs, a promotional offer that will continue for three months.
Pandey said that a total of Rs 1.5 billion has been invested in the tower by 80 individuals, including himself. An additional Rs 70 million is being invested to introduce bungee jumping and the VR Dome. He added that more adventure products will be added as the “City Bungee” initiative progresses.
