In yet another incident, the Melamchi Water Supply Project pipeline burst in Kathmandu’s Thapathali area on Tuesday morning, flooding the surrounding areas and disrupting vehicular movement.
The incident comes just weeks after a similar incident in nearby Babarmahal. The blowout has left the stretch from Thapathali Chowk to Norvic Hospital waterlogged, affecting homes and businesses.
Ashok Kumar Paudel, Chief Executive Director of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Ltd (KUKL), stated that the team is working to identify the cause of the rupture and will begin repairs immediately.
“Water supply will resume soon after the damaged pipe is repaired,” he assured.
The previous Babarmahal pipe burst three weeks ago had forced the sudden closure of public offices and even caused a road collapse. The rupture occurred during excavation work for underground electric wire expansion.
Paudel further informed that KUKL will form a committee to investigate the Thapathali incident. -- RSS
