Following the launch of MG S5 EV in Nepal – first country outside China – earlier this month, its delivery is set to begin on April 1, according to Paramount Motors, the official distributor of MG (Morris Garages) vehicles in the country.
“Bookings are currently underway, and deliveries will commence on April 1,” Sunil B. Chhetri, General Manager of Paramount Motors, told New Business Age. “Its pricing and features have garnered much attention in Nepal’s growing electric vehicle (EV) market.”
The MG S5 follows the success of the MG ZS EV, reportedly sold over 2,500 units in Nepal. MG has been in the Nepali market for six years.
A standout feature of the MG S5, according to its distributor, is its 110 mm-thick battery pack, which would be the thinnest ever among vehicles in Nepal.
The SUV is available in three variants: Comfort, Deluxe, and Luxury.
Priced at Rs 4.39 million, the Comfort variant features a 49.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 99 kW electric motor. A more expensive Deluxe variant, priced at Rs 4.99 million, features the same battery size and motor power, but comes with additional features, according to the distributor.
The Luxury variant, priced at Rs 5.49 million, is also equipped with a 99 kW motor, but has a larger 62.2 kWh LFP battery, offering extended driving range.
All variants provide a ground clearance of 180 mm.
The 49.1 kWh battery delivers a range of up to 350 km on a full charge, while the 62.2 kWh battery extends the range to 450 km, making it ideal for both city commutes and long-distance travel. The fast-charging capability allows an 80% charge in just 40 minutes, significantly reducing downtime on road trips.
Blending modern aesthetics with advanced technology, the MG S5 boasts a sleek and stylish exterior. The interior features a 12.8-inch central control screen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for real-time data, navigation, and multimedia options, leather upholstery and ambient lighting for enhanced comfort, and a spacious cabin and cargo area to accommodate passengers and luggage
The MG S5 prioritizes safety with multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, and advanced driver assistance systems. Its reinforced body structure and collision protection features contribute to high safety ratings.
“The market response has been overwhelmingly positive as MG is a trusted brand in Nepal,” said Chhetri. “Amid heightened competition with the growing adoption of EVs, the MG S5’s features and performance set it apart from competitors.”
Paramount Motors is also preparing for the launch of the MG Windsor. “Some technical issues have delayed its launch,” Chhetri noted.
