Changunarayan Municipality has announced the launch of Nagarkot Visit Year with the goal of attracting more domestic and international tourists and encouraging longer stays in the region. The initiative, set to begin on April 14 coinciding with the Nepali New Year, aims to enhance tourism in Nagarkot, benefiting not only Changunarayan but also Bagmati Province and the entire country.
The campaign is designed to showcase Nagarkot’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism potential while improving local livelihoods through increased tourism revenue. Officials believe that by promoting the destination strategically, Nagarkot Visit Year can contribute to Nepal’s broader tourism industry and economic development.
Recognizing the significance of the initiative, the Valley Mayors Forum, in its 11th meeting held in Nagarkot on Monday, formally endorsed the campaign. The forum emphasized the need for cooperation among all three levels of government to ensure its success. Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama pledged provincial support, while other ministers and municipal leaders stressed the importance of collaboration in tourism promotion.
In addition to endorsing the campaign, the mayors also discussed key urban issues, including vehicle pollution control and hospital waste management in the Kathmandu Valley.
Changunarayan Mayor Jeevan Khatri highlighted that the campaign is an opportunity to position Nagarkot as a premier tourist destination. Deputy Mayor Ramesh Budhathoki expressed confidence that Nagarkot Visit Year would significantly contribute to the local and national economy by increasing visitor numbers and extending their stays.
With strong backing from local and provincial authorities, Nagarkot Visit Year is set to become a major initiative in Nepal’s tourism calendar, promising long-term benefits for the region.
