Nepal imported coconuts worth Rs 321 million in the first three months of the current fiscal year. The massive import of coconuts has been attributed to the festivals of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath in which it is used extensively.
Director of the Department of Customs Mukti Prasad Shrestha added that the country imported dry fruits worth Rs 1 billion in the review period.
Coconuts, cashews nuts, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, betel nuts, raisins and other dry fruits were imported mostly from India and China.
According to the department, traders in Nepal imported cashew nuts worth Rs 260 million and almonds worth Rs 186 million during this period.
Likewise, the traders imported walnuts worth Rs 210 million targeting the festivals.
According to the department, imports of cashew nuts, almonds and walnuts decreased in the first three months of the current fiscal year compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal year. -- RSS
