The Nepal-India Joint Secretary-level Joint Task Force on Energy has agreed to study the construction of three new cross-border transmission lines.
The meeting, held on Wednesday in New Delhi, finalized plans to study the construction of 400 kV Nijgadhi-Motihari and Kohalpur-Lucknow transmission lines, as well as 220 kV Chameliya-Jaulbibi transmission line.
Additionally, the task force agreed on the modalities for building 400 kV Inaruwa-Purnia and Dododhara-Bareilly transmission lines. Under the agreement, each country will hold majority shares in the transmission lines within their own territories.
Sandeep Dev, joint secretary and spokesperson at Nepal's Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, stated that separate joint venture companies will be established in Nepal and India for the construction. Nepal will hold a majority share in the Nepali company, while India will hold a majority share in the Indian counterpart.
The agreements will take effect only after receiving approval from a secretary-level meeting.
The Nepali delegation at the meeting was led by Joint Secretary Sandeep Dev.
