Nepal and Thailand signed eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's ongoing official visit to Thailand. Two MoUs were signed at the government level, while six involved non-government entities.
Before the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Oli held bilateral talks with his Thai counterpart, Paetongtarn Shinawatra. They discussed political and bilateral relations, trade, economic cooperation, and collaboration in aviation, tourism, culture, and development. Regional and multisectoral concerns were also addressed.
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba and Thailand's Minister for Culture, Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, signed an MoU on cultural cooperation. Another MoU on tourism cooperation was signed by Foreign Minister Deuba and Thai Minister for Tourism and Sports, Sorawong Thienthong.
Among the six non-government MoUs, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh signed an agreement with Mahidol University in Thailand. Janata Agro and Forestry Nepal (JFL) partnered with Kasetsart University, while Kathmandu University reached an understanding with Siam University. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) signed an MoU with the Board of Trade of Thailand. Similarly, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) formalized an agreement with the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), and the Nepal Chamber of Commerce signed a deal with the Tourism Council of Thailand.
FNCCI Chair Chandra Dhakal and Thai Board of Trade Chair Sanan Angubolkul signed an MoU aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and expanding investment. The agreement focuses on cooperation in trade fairs, joint industrial facilities, and commercial forums.
CNI President Rajesh Kumar Agrawal and FTI Chair Kriengkrai Thiennukul signed an MoU to enhance investment cooperation. The agreement covers business promotion, economic research, training, capacity-building, and information exchange on legal and policy matters.
CNI President Agrawal expressed optimism that the MoU would encourage Thai investment in Nepal, highlighting recent legal reforms designed to attract foreign investors. These agreements are expected to strengthen economic ties and foster collaboration in multiple sectors between Nepal and Thailand. -- RSS
