The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 13.53 points on Sunday, December 22, closing at 2,583.29. This marked the third consecutive day of decline in the market.
Following a modest gain of 2.95 points last Tuesday, the index dropped 5.60 points on Wednesday and 31.43 points on Thursday, the last trading day of the previous week. Over the last 12 trading sessions, the index has closed in the red on 10 occasions.
Trading activity continued to shrink, with daily turnover on Sunday amounting to just over Rs 4.51 billion, down from Rs 4.76 billion on Thursday. Over 9 million shares were traded through 57,863 transactions.
The Sensitive, Float, and Sensitive Float indices also declined, registering decreases of 0.60 percent, 0.64 percent, and 0.73 percent, respectively.
Three companies – Support Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (SMB), Barahi Hydropower Public Limited (BHPL) and Nyadi Hydropower Limited (NYADI) – emerged as the day's top performers, hitting the upper circuit limits.
Other significant gainers included Super Madi Hydropower Limited (SMHL), up 9.91 percent, and People's Power Limited (PPL), which rose by 9.71 percent.
Conversely, Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd. (SAPDBL) experienced the largest loss of the day, with its share price falling by 6.40 percent.
River Falls Power Limited (RFPL) led in turnover, followed by Janaki Finance Company Limited (JFL) and People's Power Limited (PPL).
Of NEPSE's 13 sub-indices, only two closed in positive territory, the Manufacturing and Processing Index gaining 1.57 percent and the Hydropower Index surging 0.65 percent .
On the downside, the Development Bank Index posted the largest drop of 2.05 percent.
