The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dropped 33.08 points on Tuesday, December 31, to close at 2,576.50. It had dropped 13.53 points on Sunday, December 29, the previous trading day.
The market remained closed on Monday due to a public holiday for Tamu Lhosar.
Daily turnover, however, exceeded Rs 5.67 billion, compared to around Rs 5.47 billion the last trading day.
Over 13 million shares were traded through 69,923 transactions on Tuesday.
The Sensitive, Float, and Sensitive Float indices declined 0.95 percent, 1.17 percent, and 0.96 percent, respectively.
Three companies – Support Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (SMB), Janaki Finance Company Limited (JFL), and Pokhara Finance Ltd. (PFL) – hit the lower circuit limit to become the biggest losers of the day.
On the contrary, Nadep Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (NADEP) became the top gainer with its share price increasing by 4.01 percent. The Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ULBSL) and Nepal Infrastructure Bank Limited (NIFRA) followed, rising 4 percent and 3.32 percent, respectively.
Prabhu Bank Limited (PRVU) led in turnover, followed by Nepal Finance Ltd. (NFS) and Janaki Finance Company Limited (JFL).
Besides the Others Index, all NEPSE sub-indices closed in the red. The Finance Index experienced the sharpest decline of 5.19 percent.
