A total of Rs 12.86 billion in insurance claims were filed between September 26, 2024, and January 1, 2025, for damage caused by rain-induced disasters in late September, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority .
During this period, 3,686 claims were filed with 18 insurance companies. Of these, 1,809 claims have been settled, with a payout of Rs 1.78 billion.

Floods and landslides, caused by three consecutive days of heavy rainfall in the last week of September, claimed nearly 250 lives, with many others injured or missing. The events also caused severe damage to property and infrastructure.
As many as 3,213 claims totaling Rs 11.23 billion have been made in Bagmati Province – the worst affected region – alone, while 267 claims have been made in Koshi and 108 in Madhesh.

Siddhartha Premier received the highest number of claims — 511, totaling Rs 2.63 billion. The company has settled 262 claims, amounting to Rs 313.56 million during this period.

Nearly half of the claims—1,774, totaling Rs 9.22 billion—were related to property damage, while 324 claims for Rs 2.84 billion were filed for engineering and contractor risks. The remaining claims covered damage to vehicles (both private and public), agricultural crops, livestock and other categories.
